The two division belligerents will be taking part in their third series thus far this season. The Cubs have dominated the rivalry this season winning three of four in the first series in Milwaukee back in early April. Three weeks later, Chicago swept the Brewers in a four-game set shutting out the Brewers in three of the tilts. The Cubs saw their four-game winning streak snapped when they bowed to the Pirates on Sunday. Milwaukee also lost their tilt to the Phillies yesterday.
The Brewers, who will begin a six-game home stand on Monday, enter this affair as a +108 home underdog, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 8.5 runs. LH Jose Quintana (6-4, 4.20 ERA) will attempt to get back into the win column as he takes his turn for the Cubs while RH Junior Guerra (3-4, 2.83 ERA) will look to recover from latest loss as he gets the call in the opener for the Brewers.
Quintana has been solid in his last four starts allowing less than two runs in three of the outings during that stretch. The 29-year old allowed two runs on only three hits with two walks and a season-high ten strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Wednesday. The Columbia native, who won his lone start in Milwaukee this year, is 4-1 with a 0.63 ERA in 6-career starts against the Brewers.
Guerra has been sharp of late even though he has failed to collect wins in his last four games. The 33-year has posted three straight quality starts in his last three games. Guerra allowed three runs across seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision against Cleveland last Tuesday. The Venezuela native, who lost to the Cubs back in April, is 1-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 4-career starts against the Cubs.
