NL East Division Matchup on Tap as Washington Hosts Atlanta (08/07/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
The Washington National will attempt to cultivate their winning disposition and will strive to claim their third consecutive victory as they resume hostilities with the Atlanta Braves. The two NL East division rivals are scheduled to duke it out in the first contest of a doubleheader of a four-game series with the opener set to be broadcasted on the FOX Sports network (South) Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET and live from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
The Braves, who have won six of their last seven games and hold a 4.5 game lead over Washington, enter this affair as a -112 road favorites, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 9.5 runs. LH Max Fried (1-4, 3.38 ERA) will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle as he is set to thread the mound for the Braves while RH Jefry Rodriguez (0-1, 6.86 ERA) will look for his first career win as he gets the call in the opener for the Nationals.
Fried will receive another turn in the rotation in the first game of the doubleheader but his spot appears vague after the Braves acquired Kevin Gausman last Tuesday. After his next outing, a move to the bullpen or a demotion to Triple-A seems likely for the 24-year old. He allowed a run on 2 hits with seven strikeouts in five innings in a 5-1 loss against the Dodgers back on July 28. The California native will face the Nationals for the first time in his career.
Rodriguez has struggled mightily in his three career starts so far in his rookie season. The 25-year old has failed to reach the sixth inning in all three outings while compiling a 0-1 dossier with a lofty 9.64 ERA during that stretch. Rodriguez didn’t exactly shine in the minors either where he went 6-5 with a 3.61 ERA in 18 starts between Double-A and Triple-A. The Dominican Republic native threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings in his major league debut versus the Braves on June 3.
