The Chicago Cubs Look to Continue Dominant Form against San Diego (08/04/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs will attempt to cultivate their winning disposition and will strive to capture back-to-back victories and take a series’ lead as they get ready to resume hostilities with the San Diego Padres. The two NL belligerents are scheduled to compete in the third installment of a four-game series with the contest set to be broadcasted on the FOX Sports network Saturday afternoon at 2:20 p.m. ET and live from Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL.
The Padres, who have lost eight of their last nine games and 15 of their last 18 contests, enter this affair as a +210 road underdog, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 10 runs. RH Walker Lockett (0-1, 9.53 ERA) will attempt to capture his first career victory as he takes the mound for the Padres while RH Kyle Hendricks (7-9, 3.97 ERA) will look to capture back-to-back victories as he gets the call in Game 3 of the series for the Cubs.
Lockett, who was called up from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday to replace Eric Lauer who landed on the disabled list, will actually make a spot start in lieu of Joey Lucchesi who was slated to pitch on Saturday but fell ill with a stomach bug on Friday. Lockett, 24 has an unimpressive 4-9 record with a 4.92 ERA in 19 starts for the Chihuahuas this season. The Jacksonville native appeared in 2 games for the Padres this year, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in 5 2/3 career innings.
Hendricks has steadied the ship in July after enduring his worst month of his career back in June in which he posted a 1-4 record along with a hefty 7.03 ERA in five starts. The 28-year old allowed two runs across four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings in a 5-2 win against the Cardinals back on Sunday. The Dartmouth product, who won his lone start against San Diego this year, is 4-1 with a 2.62 ERA in 7-career starts against the Padres.
