Mariners Look to Play Spoiler Role Against Athletics (08/30/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics
The Seattle Mariners will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle and will strive to snap a three-game losing streak as they get ready to resume hostilities with the Oakland Athletics. The two AL West division belligerents are scheduled to compete in the first episode of a four-game series with the opener set to be broadcasted by the ESPN+ network Thursday night at 10:05 p.m. ET and live from O.co Coliseum in Oakland, CA.
The Athletics, who have fallen 2.5 games behind the Astros in the AL West, enter this affair as a -135 home favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 8.5 runs. LH Wade LeBlanc (7-3, 3.92 ERA) will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle as he is set to thread the mound for the Mariners while RH Frankie Montas (5-3, 3.75 ERA) will make his first start in a month as he gets the call in the series’ opener for the Athletics.
After one of his poorest starts of the season in which he allowed 7 runs (five earned) with three homeruns in just 4 1/3 innings against the Dodgers, LeBlanc produced a decent outing in his last trip to the mound. The 34-year old allowed a run across 4 hits with two walks and 6 strikeouts in 6 innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks back on Saturday. The Louisiana native is 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in four-career starts against the Athletics.
Montas will be filling in for Sean Manaea, who is out indefinitely with tendinitis in his left rotator cuff. The 25-year old has posted a decent 3.75 ERA with five quality starts in his ten outings this season. However, his Triple-A numbers aren’t as promising as he has collected a 4-5 record along with a 4.65 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Nashville. The Dominican Republic native adorns a 4.15 ERA in three-career games against the Mariners.
