The Washington Nationals will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle and will look to snap a five-game losing streak as they get ready to resume competition against the Miami Marlins. The two NL East Division rivals are scheduled to compete in the first instalment of a four-game series with the contest set to be broadcasted by the FOX Sports network (Florida) Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. ET and live from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Location: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia

Moneyline: Washington -194

Total: 9 Over -120

This will be only the second of six series between the two division belligerents this season. The Nationals swept the three-game series in Miami back in late May. The Nationals have utterly dominated the rivalry of late winning the last eleven confrontations against the Marlins and have prevailed in ten of the last twelve contest played in the nation’s capital. The Marlins, who are last in the NL East, enter this contest having won their last two series.

The Nationals, who are in the midst of a seven-game home stand, enter this contest as a -194 home favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 9 runs. RH Pablo Lopez (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will attempt to capture back-to-back victories as he will be called upon to start for the Marlins while RH Jeremy Hellickson (2-1, 2.63 ERA) will look to recover from latest loss as he gets the call in the series’ opener for the Nationals.

Acquired from the Mariners in last July’s David Phelps trade, Lopez boasted a 1.44 ERA and a 66K:12BB ratio over 62 1/3 innings over twelve starts between Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans this season. The 22-year old, who is ranked by MLB.com as the team’s No. 20 prospect, allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings in a 5-2 win against the Mets in his major league debut back on Saturday.

Aside from a start in which he took a perfect game bid into the seventh inning for his first win as member of the Nationals against the Padres on May 8, Hellickson has failed to record a quality start in his other nine starts. The 31-year old allowed three runs across seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Phillies back on Saturday. The Iowa native is 4-3 with a 2.88 ERA in 12-career starts against the Marlins.

Prediction: Washington 6 – Miami 4
