Location: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
Moneyline: Oakland -120
Total: 9.5 Under -120
The two AL belligerents are engaged in the first of two series they will play against one another this season. The Athletics have absolutely owned the Tigers winning the last seven confrontations and nine of the last ten contests over Detroit. After erasing a three-run deficit in the opener en route to 5-4 walk-off win in the opener, the Athletics replicate the feat by coming back from six down while scoring two in the ninth to break a 7-7 tie in a 9-7 win on Tuesday.
The Athletics, who are in the midst of their longest road trip of the season, enter this contest as a -120 road favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 9.5 runs. RH Chris Bassitt (0-3, 3.86) will attempt to snap a three-game losing streak as he takes the hill for the Athletics while RH Mike Fiers (5-4, 4.29 ERA) will look to recover from latest loss as he gets the call in the third game of the series for the Tigers.
The Athletics’ starting rotation has been hammered by injury with Daniel Mengden being the latest after suffering from a foot injury. Bassitt has been called from Triple-A Nashville to replace Mengden in the rotation. The 29-year old has allowed five runs (four earned) across six hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings in a 6-4 loss to the White Sox last Friday. The Ohio native is 1-2 with a 6.11 ERA in 3-career starts against the Tigers.
It has been an up-and-down season for Fiers thus far this year as he has collected only four quality starts in his fourteen trips to the mound in the 2018 campaign. The 33-year old veteran allowed 4 runs across 4 hits with three walks and 4 strikeouts in 5 innings in a 10-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians back on Friday. The Florida native, who has allowed at least a homerun in his last 4 games, is 1-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 8-career starts against Oakland.
