Chicago Cubs Look to Snap losing Streak to Cincinnati (07/06/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs
The red-hot Chicago Cubs will attempt to maintain their winning disposition and will strive to collect their seventh consecutive victory as they get ready to resume completion with the Cincinnati Reds. The two NL Central Division rivals are scheduled to compete in the first instalment of a three-game series with the contest set to be broadcasted by the MLB network Friday afternoon at 2:20 p.m. ET and live from the famed Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL.
This will be the fourth of six series between the two division belligerents this season. The first series was cut short to just a game when the other was postponed due to inclement weather. It was made up in the second set back in May which the Reds lost three of four on home soil. The Reds rebounded by sweeping a four-game series at home two weeks ago. The Cubs have scored five or more runs in eight straight games for the first time since 2010.
The Cubs, who enter their last home series before the All-Star break on Friday, enter this contest as a -160 home favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 7.5 runs. RH Tyler Mahle (6-6, 3.83 ERA) will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle as he takes his turn for the Reds while LH Mike Montgomery (3-2, 3.55 ERA) will look to capture back-to-back victories as he gets the call in the series’ opener for the Cubs.
Mahle has been sharp of late allowing two or fewer runs in five of his last six trips to the mound. The 23-year old allowed three runs (one earned) across six hits with three walks and a career-high twelve strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers back on Saturday. The California native, who lost his lone start against the Cubs back on May 20, is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two-career starts against Chicago.
Montgomery has been spot on since replacing an injured Yu Darvish in the rotation back on May 20. The 29-year is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA in seven outings and has collected four quality starts during that stretch. The lefty allowed five runs (three earned) across seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings in a 10-6 win against the Minnesota Twins a week ago. The California native is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 4-career starts against the Reds.
