Washington Looks to Continue Domination against Miami (07/07/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals will attempt to maintain their winning disposition and will look to notch their third consecutive victory as they get ready to resume competition against the Miami Marlins. The two NL East Division rivals are scheduled to compete in the third instalment of a four-game series with the contest set to be broadcasted by the FOX Sports network Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. ET and live from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
The two division belligerents are engaged in only the second of six series this season. The Nationals have utterly dominated the rivalry of late winning the last 13 confrontations against the Marlins and have prevailed in 12 of the last 14 contest played in the nation’s capital. The Nationals, who rallied from a nine runs deficit to beat Miami 14-12 in the opener on Thursday, stunned the Marlins again on Friday when Mark Reynolds’ walk-off homerun helped them secured a 3-2 win on Friday.
The Nationals, who are in the midst of a seven-game home stand, enter this contest as a -340 home favorite, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 7 runs. LH Wei-Yin Chen (2-5, 5.55 ERA) will attempt to notch his first victory in well over a month as he takes the hill for the Marlins while Max Scherzer (10-5, 2.16 ERA) will look to snap a two-game losing streak as he gets the call in Game 3 of the series for the Nationals.
Although Chen has recorded three quality starts in his last four trips to the mound, he managed to notch only one win during that stretch. The 32-year old threw six scoreless innings across three hits with no walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision against Tampa Bay last Monday. The Taiwan native, who didn’t factor in the decision against the Nationals in his lone start this year, is 1-5 with a 4.24 ERA in 8-career starts against Washington.
While he has registered seven consecutive quality starts in as many games, Scherzer went on to lose four games during that span. Three of those losses came with the Nationals being shut out in all three games. The 33-year old allowed three runs across four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts in six innings in a 4-3 loss to the Red Sox back on Monday. The three-time Cy young award winner is 8-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 15-career starts against Miami.
