Athletics Aim to Stay Dominant Against Twins (08/23/2018)
Vegas Odds and MLB Picks: Oakland Athletics at Minnesota Twins
The Oakland Athletics will attempt to get back into the winner’s circle and will look to keep up in the AL West with the Houston Astros as they get ready to resume hostilities with the Minnesota Twins. The two AL rivals are scheduled to compete in the first installment of a four-game series with the opener set to be broadcasted on the MLB network Thursday night at 8:10 p.m. and live from Target Field in Minneapolis, MN.
The Twins, who have one of the best home field record in the league, enter this affair as a +144 home underdog, according to Bovada Sportsbook, with the total sitting on 9.5 runs. RH Trevor Cahill (5-2, 3.12 ERA) will attempt to notch back-to-back victories as he is set to thread the hill for the Athletics while RH Kohl Stewart (0-1, 7.71 ERA) will look to capture his first career win as he gets the call in the in the series’ opener for the Twins.
Despite allowing 9 runs in 9 2/3 innings in a couple of starts in his last 5 outings, Cahill still managed to stay undefeated with a 4-0 record. During that stretch, the 30-year old posted 3 quality starts, all wins. Cahill threw 7 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed with a walk and seven strikeouts in a 7-1 victory against the Astros back on Saturday. The California native is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 2.70 ERA in 4-career starts against Minnesota.
Stewart, who will be making his third career start in the majors, hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire in the minors this or any other year where he held a 3-7 record with a 4.47 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A but with the Twins’ season going nowhere so perhaps it’s time to see what the former No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft has to offer. The 23-year old Texas native will face the Athletics for the first in his career.
